I’ve been listening to the top 20’s in Christian music for a long time and just now realized that they have a website (yep, I’m a little slow) at 20 The Countdown Magazine. Okay, the site ain’t that great, and that annoying little jingle blasts you every time you navigate to the home page, but there’s still a lot worth a look here, if nothing else for the Countdown itself. If you’d like to find Christian music that’s not part of the top 40 scene, heck – not even part of the “we’re on a label and have our own CD” out scene, then you’ll definitely want to check out Soundclick’s Contemporary Christian Charts. I just listened to Ruben Studdard (yep, he of American Idol fame) sing Shout to the Lord, there’s also a pretty good reindition of Oh Happy Day on there, and a few other gems. I just found out that Steve Taylor, he who penned such controversial songs as I Want to be a Clone, I Blew Up The Clinic Real Good, and This Disco (Used To Be A Cute Cathedral) actually directed it, so hey! it’s gotta be good. I’m not a big fan of American Idol once all the really horrible people are done auditioning, but I do like the singers that this show keeps churning out (by the way, whatever happened to Ruben Studdard?). One of the best singers that American Idol has produced is Carrie Underwood, and her current hit, Jesus, Take the Wheel is great and makes me tear up almost every time I hear it (I’m a sucker for sad country songs!). Well, yes, I know we’re well into 2006, but I just saw this: Top 100 Christian Rock Albums of 2005. Nice array of different artists there, including Stryper (Yellow and Black Attack!!!!), POD, Kutlass, and Skillet.
And speaking of Kutlass, they’re coming in concert near me very soon – I might have to check them out.
