What’s going on with Larry Norman?
If you’re a Larry Norman fan, you’ll know that he’s had some pretty major health problems the last few years. I was able to see him in one of his last concerts before all this in Seaside, Oregon, and my husband actually chatted with him for close to an hour. He gave us his phone number and we called him the next week to invite him out to the beach (we were working in Cannon Beach at the time), and got his lovely mother on the line, who gave us all sorts of funny stories about Larry. :>)
Anyway, the official Larry Norman website has not been updated in a LONG time, but I did find this great interview with Larry and CCM Magazine; here’s a snippet:
“I was singing directly to the disenfranchised. People who hated church and doubted God’s existence could get an emotional and intellectual buzz off of my songs. These songs were self-contained arguments. I felt that someone needed to fight for the dignity of the skeptic, to befriend him and recommend that he take a closer look at God.”
You know, once in the early ’90’s I called up my local Christian music station and asked if they could play one of Larry’s songs. They told me that his music was not “commercial” enough. Yikes, huh?

I’m having the hardest time trying to get recent news on Larry’s health. I pray for him. Nothing current on his website. When was your visit with him, 2005? Alan

[…] The official Larry Norman web site, that is updated, oh, let’s say maybe every six months (note to Solid Rock Crew - could ya maybe fix that?) has a great video of Larry Norman right up front and center, and checking the News and Info page I found out that Larry Norman is going to be doing some touring! ROCK ON! Larry is probably my top favorite Christian rock artist of all time and I had the chance to see him back in 1999 or so out at Seaside Oregon. Read more about the Larry Norman concert, and hey, Larry, if you’re reading this, the invite to dinner still stands! I’ll make blackberry pie! […]

Hi! My name is Tim DeMoss. I’m a disc jockey from Pennsylvania and am in the process of writing Larry Norman’s biography. While I have a lot of material from interviews, time spent with Larry, and so forth, I believe a great way to tell his story is to invite others (like yourself) to share their stories of Larry as well. I did a “Yahoo” search, and your link/blog was one of those listed, so I wanted to extend the invitation to you to contribute. Personal interactions, concert experiences, how his music affected you and your friends/family, rumors you may have heard, questions you may have—those are all examples of how you might participate.
The details and background are at http://www.thelarrynormanstory.com. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Please also feel free to forward this on to anyone you believe would a) like to submit their thoughts or questions or b) simply be made aware of the biography’s progress and completion.
Thanks very much!
Sincerely,
Tim DeMoss

Larry’s website has been updated recently. The news is current as of May 2006. His health is still failing and he would really appreciate our prayers for him. See his website at http://www.larrynorman.com to see how we can help him with his medical expenses.
