Sandi Patty in Concert

Sandi Patty in Concert

I’ve already let you know that I’ll be attending the Indiana State Fair next week to see Michael W. Smith, Third Day and Jars of Clay in concert.
For anyone that prefers more of the old school contemporary Christian music and likes a good orchestral performance, Sandi Patty will be in concert with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to kick off the 150th birthday party concert for the Indiana State Fair.
Best yet? The concert is completely free, although you’ll still need to pick-up tickets so they can maintain some idea of the crowd to expect. You can print off a voucher here …read more

Are you a Christian or Mainstream Music Artist

Are you a Christian or Mainstream Music Artist

My recent post about my thoughts on Collective Soul and reading some articles discussed on Christianity Today I thought I’d propose a question to you the readers.
Does a Christian who sings have to be promoted as a “Christian” artist? Are they less of a Christian if they sing in a secular group? Why do we have to have these labels? Do the labels mean anything more than the difference between a blues genre and jazz? Am I less of a Christian because I enjoy listening to music and albums sold in the “New Age” section of music stores? I know …read more

Newsboys Ripped Me Off!

Newsboys Ripped Me Off!

A post at CCM Patrol shares the experience of a man that got less than he thinks he bargained for at a recent concert. He’s basically complaining that he spent $100+ to see the Newsboys, and they only sang 9 songs.
Analysis: I will never see any concert at any amusement park, ever, or at any festival with mulitple bands, as that’s what I blame for the microscopic set list.
You’ve really got to read the entire spiel, as he details out the costs he experienced like a Mastercard commercial. I responded in the comments with my thoughts below:
I don’t believe this …read more

Worship Choices: Hymns, Contemporary or RAP?

Worship Choices: Hymns, Contemporary or RAP?

There’s a new worship option coming to a church near you. It’s hip-hop or rap.
A recent article in Newsweek (July 31st, 2006) opened up the discussion of churches beginning to reach out to an even more contemporary crowd through this urban music and art form.
This is obviously more popular in more urban church settings, not something you’d normally see offered in your suburbia, white-collar, picket-fence location in rural America. But that doesn’t change the fact that it is in-fact a growing trend.
Churches aren’t necessarily switching to the format wholesale, but more likely offering and worship service or time for this …read more

Mark Schultz Concert – Reader Review

Mark Schultz Concert – Reader Review

Karen Smith has answered my call and has given us a reader review of her experience at a Mark Schultz concert:

Hi Jason…my husband and I drove 150 miles to see Mark Schultz at the Elkhart County 4-H fair. It was awesome! We had good seats on the track and were very thankful because the grandstand filled up really quick and the entire place was packed when the concert began!
I already loved his music but seeing him in person made it even better. He was so warm and funny and friendly…I felt like he was speaking to me …read more

Collective Soul – Better Now

Collective Soul – Better Now

Any Collective Soul fans out there? What? They’re not a Christian group? Have you listened to their lyrics? Did you know the lead singer is a preacher’s kid?
I know you can’t just look at some lyrics or assume someone is a Christian by who their dad is, but as I listen to more and more of their music I can’t help but think there’s alot more going on underneath the surface than we think.
Listen to these lyrics:
Oh I’m newly calibrated
All shiny and clean
I’m your recent adaptation
Time to redefine me
Let the word out I’ve got to get out
Oh I’m feeling better …read more

Emerging Artist – Sean Dietrich

Emerging Artist – Sean Dietrich

I received an e-mail a few weeks back introducing me to an aspiring, independent artist named Sean Dietrich. With my recent trip to New Orleans, specifically the 14-hour drive down and back, I had the opportunity to listen through the various songs that are available on his website at www.seandietrich.com
I am writing regarding an exciting and talented new Christian singer/songwriter.  His passionate and loving testimony shines vividly through his music!  If you believe in following hard after God and the No Compromise ministries of Keith Green, Matthew Ward, or Randy Stonehill, you will love Sean Dietrich.
The similarities to Keith Green …read more

Artist of the Week – The Fairfield Four

Artist of the Week – The Fairfield Four

I just returned from a one-week work & witness trip to New Orleans. We were working with Desire Street Ministries helping rebuild a neighborhood just across the canal from the lower 9th ward area. The Lower 9th Ward area was the area shown most on the news with all the flooding. It’s amazing the amount of damage and destruction that’s still in the area. It’s been almost a year now since Katrina, and it all still looks like a disaster zone. It’s the closest I’ve been yet to an area that resembles visiting a 3rd world country.
Anyway, last Sunday we …read more
