Scott Krippayne Wins American Idol Songwriter Contest

Scott Krippayne and Jeff Peabody - American Idol Songwriters WinnersI’m watching tonight’s final performance episode of American Idol and seeing who’s going to bring it home between Mr. Entertainer, Blake Lewis, or Ms. Teenage Vocal Phenom, Jordin Sparks.

They each get three songs, one of which is the song that was written by the winning submission for their songwriter contest. Ryan Seacrest ventures out into the audience and announces the winners who are there and it’s Scott Krippayne and Jeff Peabody.

My wife and I wonder outloud if that’s the same Scott Krippayne that’s a contemporary Christian artist and songwriter. Turns out it is. I ventured onto the American Idol website and found this introduction for the two of them:

Scott Krippayne is a singer-songwriter who cares about writing music that reflects life, resonates with people, and touches the heart. He also desires to earn enough money from songwriting to put food on the table for his wife and two kids. Jeff Peabody is a songwriter, advertising guru, graphic designer, and a pastor.

Yeppers! All the same guy. Visited his website to make sure he looked like one of the guys shown above. Congratulations Scott, way to get some mainstream notoriety and exposure for your talent and work.

On a side note, this song was totally more up Jordin’s performance strengths than Blake’s. However, the demo version that’s on the American Idol website is a better performance than both of theirs. I’m guessing that was performed by Scott himself.

Yeah Scott! I have heard your songs on Christian radio ( “I’m Not Cool” is especially catchy) and I was SO excited to hear your name as the winner! And your song is wonderful – so timely and meaningful. It was great to hear how Blake and Jordin each interpreted it and sang it.
    Way to go!

    God bless!

Well, isn’t that cool. (OK that doesn’t fit well now that I’ve read the previous comment but it still IS pretty cool.)

There was a black woman in the last idol contest that I was rooting for because she sure could belt out gospel songs. I wish she would have gone further because I enjoyed every moment she was on stage.

Last year was my 1 and only year I gave myself to watch idol. There are just not enough hours in the day to watch all the stuff I’d be interested in. I still have half a season of Battle Star Galactica to watch… And Ultimate Ninja Warrior and Survivor take care of my competition cravings :)

    Anyway, Congrats Scott!

Brian, the person you’re thinking about is Mandisa and she just released her first album and it’s on a Christian label. She’s great and it’s nice to see her doing well and doing it for God. http://www.hearitfirst.com/mandisa/

Yep, that’s her and she’s still got it.

I’ve been watching Scott since he was a Jr. in High school. During his senior year, I met a friend of his, and then later introduced to his brother Dean. Dean and I have written songs together and became best friends in the past 18 plus years. So now, it’s very cool to see this happening to Scott. I’ve known Jeff for about 6 months since moving back to Washington from S. California — and he is one of the most humble guys I have met. A great pastor too. Scott is so talented and humble about it all and it’s great to see him blessed in a big way winning this contest. I’m sure the flood gates of opportunities have been broken wide open for both of them. It’s been fun to watch this unfold.

oh yeah!!! ScottyK is my favorite! I wish Chris Sligh could have made it to the end (he’s my cousin’s husband), but I don’t really think Scott’s song is his style. He still would have blown it away though. But I guess I’m biased. Acutally, I hope Scott still gets to keep the rights to his song so HE can record it on his next album!

While I did not feel that Blake was American Idol material, *much as I loved his beep boxing*, I really felt bad for the poor guy having to sing that song. It was put before him, despite the fact that I’m sure all the judges knew that it just wasn’t HIS song. I think next year they should do what they did this year, except they should have some kind of setup so that they can choose the two songs out of the top whatever that would fit whoever ends up in the BIG Two.
