The Golden Compass: The Anti-Narnia and Killing God?
I received an e-mail today from someone letting me know about a new movie coming out. Given the context and the information behind the author of the books the movie is based on I thought my readers might be interested in the details and be informed. The movie is titled “The Golden Compass”
As you can see, the movie looks very well produced and has a pretty large cast of great actors.

- Daniel Craig
- Ian McKellen
- Sam Elliott
Here’s the problem though, the books are written by an atheist and the message of killing God doesn’t come until the third book in the trilogy. Releasing the movie this close to Christmas, the goal could be that parents take their kids to an entertaining movie and they begin reading the sequels in the book series.

I’m normally not a person to get all worked up about stuff like this, but I like to know about these types of events to remind myself and others that the world isn’t innocent. We must be on our guard and understand what’s going on around us. 1 Peter 5:8

Interesting post Jason. I had seen the trailer and thought the movie might be decent. As a C.S. Lewis fan myself, I think I may have to refrain from this one.

i think the golden compass was a great movie and his dark materials book series has become one of my favorites. I was raised in a very catholic household and still consider myself to be. Just because I accept a certain faith doesn’t mean i should never question it. These book really made me question the institution of “the catholic church” and not really “the catholic faith” which i find to be very different things. If people read the books closely, its not about “Killing God” but killing those that have wrongfully assumed the role of god. (which are more like the first Angels) “God” himself is a complete mystery and plays no role in the books.
