I was raised in a very catholic household and still consider myself to be. Just because I accept a certain faith doesn't mean i should never question it. These book really made me question the institution of "the catholic church" and not really "the catholic faith" which i find to be very different things. If people read the books closely, its not about "Killing God" but killing those that have wrongfully assumed the role of god. (which are more like the first Angels) "God" himself is a complete mystery and plays no role in the books. i think the golden compass was a great movie and his dark materials book series has become one of my favorites.
