Please Pray: Steven Curtis Chapman’s Daughter Killed
I just received an update on twitter from Jeremy Camp requesting prayer for Steven Curtis Chapman’s family. It appears his daughter was killed. Don’t have any more details. I’ll get more details as soon as I can.
UPDATE: According to this article in The Tennessean newspaper, 5 year old Maria was hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser in their family driveway. Adding to the tragedy is that the vehicle was driven by Steven Curtis Chapman’s teenage son and Maria’s older brother. Maria is one of the Chapman’s adopted children.
Take a moment now and pray for this family and lift them up continuously over the next few days and weeks as they continue to struggle with the loss of this precious, young life.

I can’t belive it! I just saw them in concert in Nashville last november. Steven had the whole family with him. As a father of three of my own small children, my heart is crying for the whole Chapman family! I most certainly will pray for God’s comfort on them.

yes. Please pray for their family at this time, especially for her older brother, will franklin. Pray that he finds peace within himself and knows that this was part of God’s plan–and will can’t control that. I was at Vanderbilt earlier and their family has such strpng faith. As of now, their only concern is for will franklin.

Although I think I understand your meaning and intention, I think it’s dangerous to say that this accident was “God’s plan”. I believe God can and does work all things out for the good of those who believe in Him. This is a tragedy for sure and God will work through it. Our prayers are with you Will!

Hey Jason,
I understand where you’re coming from with your comment saying “it’s dangerous to say that this accident was ‘God’s plan’”—but isn’t it MORE dangerous to say that what happened was NOT part of God’s plan? How can we have any hope whatsoever, if God is not fully in control of everything–and I mean everything–that happens to us? There are no such things as “accidents” or “coincidences”–those things only exist in a God-less view of the world, or at least in a view of Almighty God who is less than All-mighty. God does not experience “tragedy”. We do, though, from our earthly perspective. Every “tragedy” is divinely orchestrated by our loving heavenly Father–not for our bad, but for our ultimate GOOD! That’s the only hope we can have in this world of countless “tragedies” and “accidents” and pain and death and suffering.
I’m not trying to “start a fight” or anything! :)
Just some “food for thought” coming from a guy who’s had to deal with pain, suffering, disappointment, frustration, etc., for several years now.
I have never lost a child, however, so I cannot imagine what the Chapman’s are going through. I do know that they believe in the ultimate sovereignty and power of God in the midst of trials and tribulations, so I am confident that their faith will not waver but will only be strengthened.
May God grant them the grace to handle this situation.

JBruMay I again agree with the intent of the comment, but then how also do you reconcile “free will”. Maybe you don’t, but in my opinion, God doesn’t orchestrate me sinning, committing crimes or initiating tragedies so he can be glorified. We live in a fallen world where we’re responsible for our actions and are already forgiven for them if we accept that forgiveness. God does work through all things and that’s what I believe. Did God cause Adam and Eve to fall into sin? I don’t think so. As you said, I don’t want to get into any kind of argument, but do enjoy and learn from the dialogue.

In reply to JBruMay and Jason, I believe you both make valid points. In this tragedy, and it is a devastating tragedy, I also am praying for the Chapman family. I would like to offer this insight, as I was taught from an elderly anointed mentor, many years ago. When something happens, we are to say, as hard as it can be, “Thank You Lord for allowing this to happen”, now what am I to learn from it, how do I pray, what do I do now, what do I say and to whom”, etc. etc. , as The Holy Spirit leads, because there is always a lesson and a greater meaning than we have the capability to know at the onset. This helps us to not only learn and grow, but keeps us submitting to God, knowing that He will bring something good from it, because that’s who He is, that’s what He does. I hope this helps someone the way it helped me, one who too has suffered many tragic things. In regards to Will, I know the enemy will try to confine this young man in guilt. We can only imagine what this young man’s calling from God is. We don’t know Will personally. But, Satan does and he will try vehemently to use this tragedy to stop Will in his tracks. I pray this does not happen and that no weapon formed against this young man prospers, nor against the entire Chapman family, that they will overcome, and stay on track with God. God Bless

The devil comes to kill, steal and destroy, not God. I cannot justify thanking God for allowing such tragedies to happen, nor can I thank Him for the poor actions/decisions of others. They are not from Him nor is it His will. Neither am I comforted by the words or thought to thank God for allowing this to have happened. But I am asking for His healing grace for this dear, precious family right now. I do pray that what the devil had meant for evil that God may turn it for good and for a sevenfold return/restoration to this family what has been taken from them. We leave it to God how He should bring it to pass, but we call upon Him by the authority of His word. Amen.
