Jason Castro Performs “I’m Not Who I Was”

Jason Castro Performs “I’m Not Who I Was”

As I was looking for a new video of Brandon Heath’s new song “Give Me Your Eyes” I came across this other great song by Brandon, but American Idol’s Jason Castro is performing it in the video below.

Jason still has the sound that I like, I’m sure his album will be one I purchase when it comes out. My question is whether or not it will be released on a Christian label or not.

Album Review "Deconstruction" by Justin McRoberts

Album Review "Deconstruction" by Justin McRoberts

I’m going to make a strong comment in this review but I’ve been thinking about it now for the last few weeks as I’ve listened to more and more albums.
Justin McRoberts is the absolute best independent Christian music male artist I’ve heard since I’ve been blogging here at Christian Music Fan.
I received his album “Deconstruction” for review a number of weeks ago and I just can’t stop playing it over and over and telling everyone I know about him and this album. His clean and clear vocals really remind me a lot of Derek Webb, and his straight to …read more

Album Review: "In the Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2"

Album Review: "In the Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2"

Over the past year I’ve developed a new appreciation and enjoyment for the music of U2. I also have a few different contacts with musicians that have connections to Africa. When I heard about “In the Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2” I knew I had to get the CD and listen to it.
As soon as I slid this disc into my CD player in the car, I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed.
The music and rhythms and lyrics were comfortably familiar, but the voices and instruments were unique and beautiful all in their own right. The …read more

American Idols Sing "Shout to the Lord"

American Idols Sing "Shout to the Lord"

Do my ears deceive me? Are the final 8 American Idol finalists singing a boldly worship song by Darlene Zschech, “Shout to the Lord”.

This is old news I guess now but I’m just now catching up. They performed this song last night for “Idol Gives Back” on Wednesday night but U-verse failed to realize that “Idol Gives Back” is part of the American Idol series recording.
Luckily they performed it again tonight and I got to see it.
Aside from being surprised, could you tell which singers didn’t appear to be too excited to be singing the song? What do you think? …read more

American Idol Goes Country Gospel

American Idol Goes Country Gospel

The Clark Brothers were one of the guest performers on the American Idol results show tonight. My friend Ryan gave me the heads up about expecting some spiritual overtones for tonight’s show right before I started watching tonight on the DVR.
Quite a different act than you’d expect to see on American Idol. The Clark Brothers performed “This Little Light of Mine”. Not the song you’d expect to hear anywhere out of Sunday School, much less on Fox television. As if that wasn’t weird enough, The Clark Brothers performed it like a hard-rock country group. There’s no doubting their talent …read more

Mandisa’s “Only the World” Sits at #2 on Billboard

Mandisa’s “Only the World” Sits at #2 on Billboard

Jeanne over at Idol Stalker just gave me the heads-up that Mandisa is doing really well with her debut release. Specifically, her song “Only the World”, she recorded with tobyMac and Kirk Franklin is doing extremely well. So well that she’s only trailing Beyonce on the Billboard Overall Single Sales at #2. Correction: “Only the World” is Mandisa’s solo release from her upcoming album. The song she recorded with tobyMac and Kirk Franklin was “Lose My Soul”, which is also great and can be heard on Mandisa’s MySpace page.
In the original article on Christian Today, Mandisa said this about her …read more

Mandisa’s “Only the World” from her new album

Mandisa’s “Only the World” from her new album

I’ve heard Mandisa’s song “Only the World” three times today on K-LOVE and it’s an uplifting and catchy tune for sure. It kind of reminds me of some old Anointed songs with the rhythm and tempo.
It’s really great to see Mandisa getting this album released and staying with her Christian beliefs and using her talent in the industry. She’s really got the talent, that’s undoubted. I think this continues to show that even with the drama and spectacle that surrounds American Idol, it really is uncovering some great talent.
You can hear the song for yourself by tuning into K-LOVE, visiting …read more

Congratulations to Jordin Sparks

Congratulations to Jordin Sparks

If you’re an American Idol fan then you probably already know that Jordin Sparks beat out Blake Lewis in last night’s 2-hour finale to this season of American Idol. If you’re really an American Idol fan, then you should be reading Idol Stalker in addition to Christian Music Fan.
I had written about Jordin a long time ago and how she had actually toured with Michael W. Smith on his Christmastime tour for the past two years. Michael has also been covering Jordin’s progress on American Idol from his own blog.
I feel that Jordin has done a great job of maintaining …read more

Scott Krippayne Wins American Idol Songwriter Contest

Scott Krippayne Wins American Idol Songwriter Contest

I’m watching tonight’s final performance episode of American Idol and seeing who’s going to bring it home between Mr. Entertainer, Blake Lewis, or Ms. Teenage Vocal Phenom, Jordin Sparks.
They each get three songs, one of which is the song that was written by the winning submission for their songwriter contest. Ryan Seacrest ventures out into the audience and announces the winners who are there and it’s Scott Krippayne and Jeff Peabody.
My wife and I wonder outloud if that’s the same Scott Krippayne that’s a contemporary Christian artist and songwriter. Turns out it is. I ventured onto the American Idol website …read more
