While listening to Yahoo Music LAUNCHcast Radio I decided to start my day with some Dave Matthews. His song “The Maker” just played and I caught a portion of the lyrics and restarted it from the beginning. I’m a fan of Dave Matthews but I’ve never heard this song before so it was a good find.

My wife just told me that she had just heard this new song by Casting Crowns. I looked for it on YouTube hoping to get to hear the whole thing. Luckily it was there but it’s just the audio, no video.
The lyrics are powerful and in-your-face, which reminds me a lot of what I’ve been liking about Todd Agnew.

I first heard and sang Chris Tomlin’s “How Great Is Our God” at a men’s retreat for our church about three years ago. We had recently started attending the church, and things in my life were not near what I had planned for that period. One of the most recent artists I’ve been introduced to and loved is Derek Webb. He has a new album, and a graphic novel, coming out entitled “The Ringing Bell” that you can pre-order.
If you visit the site you can listen to the album in streaming format and preview the images that appear in the accompanying book. I like the graphic quality of the images. Very stark, strong lines and bold colors. Pretty much black, white and red.

I’ve written about Derek Webb before on this site here and here, but yesterday I decided to add his “Mockingbird” album to my Now Playing list and was reminded again that I absolutely love his sound and the strength of his lyrics.
Then what do you know, within a couple of hours I get an e-mail from HearItFirst letting me know that there’s a new free song available and it’s from none other than Derek Webb.

I continue to listen to the album I received for free from Derek Webb entitled “Mockingbird“.
As I am listening to it now, I had to share the lyrics from the second song on the album entitled “A New Law”. I came from a great church heritage and am thankful for how I was raised and taught in the church. I know, I know Bono is now promoting AIDS relief by selling candy-apple red iPods, a portion of which will be given to help fight AIDS in Africa. (A bit of advice, if you really care about fighting AIDS, forgo the iPod all-together and donate everything to AIDS relief.
What I’m more interested in discussing now though is the what U2 and Bono are doing to promote Christianity. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted about mainstream artists being overtly or covertly Christian and those were quite active posts.
